A commenter said they thought Super Amigo Foods on Racine Avenue closed up shop.  No shock there.  When it first opened it was great.  There was cheap, fresh produce, tons of Mexican specialties, and an awesome in-store prepared food area where you could have excellent, affordable Mexican food.  Then as time passed they seemed to scale back some of this stuff.

In recent months everything seemed to go downhill.  The store often smelled like rotting meat and the only thing that smells like rotting meat is…well, rotting meat.  I quit buying their hot prepared foods because of that.  I used to shop there at least once a week but I couldn’t stand how nasty it smelled in there so I stopped going and switched my allegiance to Panos two locations (Downtown and on Sunset in the former PDQ). The thing I will miss most is their spectacular guacamole and salsas, the freshly fried pork rinds, the chicken filled sopes, and their empanadas.

The Freeman has a great article that the Frame Park Baseball opponents should read.

The Farmer’s Market will be open on Tuesday nights starting this Tuesday, July 15.  They will kick off the Tuesday night season with a wine, chocolate, and cheese tasting event.

Soundoff has someone railing against light rail.  Light rail or commuter rail will never be a preferred option until it is faster, cheaper, and more convenient than using a car. Right now it may be cheaper but it is not faster or convenient.  Mass transit works in Chicago because it meets all three criteria.  That doesn’t mean I am a light rail opponent.  In fact it is pathetic that the state has not looked at light rail as part of its freeway reconstruction projects.  They should have been incorporating rails into the freeway design like they have in Chicago, even if they are not going to be used yet.  This shortsightedness is going to come back and bite the region in its ass.  The demand for transportation alternatives is going to continue to grow especially considering that it is unlikely we will ever see gas much below 4 bucks a gallon ever again and if it continues to increase at this rate it won’t be long before gas creeps up to the 8-10 dollar a gallon range.
