The Harley event is being called “The Weekend in Waukesha” but it seems like this upcoming weekend has enough events to lay claim to that title as well. On the docket for this weekend:

A Taste of Summer will take place from June 4th (today) through Sunday June 8th at the Expo Center. There will be music, a Nintendo Wii contest, carnival rides, a circus, duck racing, laser shows, amateur Great Lakes Wrestling, and an exhibit of large tigers, lions, and cougars (the cats, not the older women who go after young men…but I suppose there could be some of those kinds of cougars too). Best of all you can ride in a monster truck version of the General Lee (see above photo). Yeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaawwwww! They boast an impressive lineup bands including washed up 80s rockers like Brett Michaels (Poison), Great White, and Dennis DeYoung of Styx. So pull out your acid washed jean jacket, tease your hair, and head over to the Expo Center. More information can be found on their website.
The Waukesha Farmer’s Market is also open. If you haven’t been down there this year, check it out. There are some new vendors including West Allis Cheese and Oskri Organics based out of Ixonia, WI, who make these awesome granola and other healthy snack bars. This time of year is a great time to get vegetable and fruit plants and flowers to plant in your yard. You may also find some spring vegetables and herbs. The Farmer’s Market is open Saturday, 7 a.m.-noon on Riverfront Plaza (between Broadway and Barstow).
Its also the first week of the Waukesha Freeman’s Friday Night Live. There are several stages set up around downtown where you can watch local musicians. Its a great tradition that seems to attract more and more people to downtown. Stages are located near Cuddles Hallmark, 349 West Broadway, Rochester Deli, 143 W. Broadway, Martha Merrell’s Bookstore, 231 W. Main, and The Steaming Cup, 340 W. Main. For a sampling of what you may find, check out this video from the Freeman’s YouTube page.
Also of interest Katydids and Urban Abode have announced they are selling clearance items at a yard sale this weekend. They have clearance merchandise from both of stores and will be offering it at rock-bottom pricing. The sale runs Thursday, June 5th 9-8, Friday, June 6th 9-4 and Saturday, June 7th 9-noon at 937 Valley Hill Drive.
La Flor de Trigo, a new Mexican bakery at 120 W. Broadway will have its grand opening party on Monday night starting at 5pm. There will be free samples.
